Project Pericles

The documentary is the capstone of three years of work by the Periclean Scholars Class of 2020 and focuses on the many faces of the people of Cuba.

Periclean Scholars Class of 2021 is bringing two child welfare experts from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota to campus to discuss conditions on the reservation and working with children to help heal difficulties they have experienced.

The series was developed by Assistant Professor Jennifer Carroll in connection with her "Citizenship in Crisis" course.

The series, titled (the) Local Matters, will feature speakers with expertise in policy, public health, law enforcement, criminal justice, prevention services and clinical care.

Periclean Scholars from the Class of 2019 visited the country three times during three years and conducted extensive research to support an impactful project designed to economically empower local residents. As part of their work, they raised money to help provide residents with fishing equipment that was delivered this month. 

Carroll, an assistant professor of anthropology, will work with other members of her cohort in the program to develop new courses focused around civil engagement and social responsibility.

The Winter Term program is the culminating project for the Class of 2018 Periclean Scholars, who spent two weeks in Cipulukusu in Zambia.
