Hundreds of people gathered Monday in the Numen Lumen Pavilion to share stories and happy memories of Professor Heidi G. Frontani, a faculty member in the Department of History & Geography who had died of a sudden illness just three days earlier.

A campus Gathering of Friends to mourn the loss of a beloved Elon scholar and mentor takes place Monday, Feb. 29, at 4 p.m. in the Sacred Space of the Numen Lumen Pavilion.

The half-day event organized by the Periclean Scholars Class of 2016 included a keynote speaker; four breakout sessions led by local business owners; and a company fair featuring sustainable businesses and organizations.

A newspaper column by Professor Tom Arcaro reflects on the YMCA's first national advertising campaign, "The Y. For a better us," and contrasts the Y's mission with rhetoric in the 2016 presidential election cycle.

"The Peace Process in Colombia" Marcia Mejía Chirimia speaks about how communities and organizations are working for a better future on Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. in the McBride Gathering Space in the Numen Lumen Pavilion.

The associate professor of psychology also will mentor the Periclean Scholars Class of 2019 with a focus on Sri Lanka.  

Four graduating seniors will work with Alamance County health organizations through a new community initiative that encourages students to pursue a year of service following their collegiate studies.

Omolayo Ojo, an international studies major and Honors Fellow from Maryland, will spend a year in Europe before pursuing graduate studies in immigration law, migration and development.

With a focus on Zambia, 32 freshmen will spend the next three years taking classes that culminate in a project of social change as part of a program aimed at developing in students a deep sense of global citizenship.
