Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences has recognized seven faculty and staff for excellence in teaching, mentoring, scholarship, service and leadership.

Amy Overman, assistant dean of Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences, and professor in the Psychology Department and Neuroscience Program, has received two grants totaling more than $500,000 to support collaborative neuroscience research with partners at Penn State University and N.C. A&T State University.

The article by Mathew Gendle, director of Project Pericles and professor of psychology, will appear in the next issue of the journal Tourism in Paradise.

The Service Learning Faculty Scholars program for the first time will include two cohorts of faculty and staff members ready to further integrate the service-learning pedagogy into the Elon curriculum.

The talk was titled, “Raising Super Women…and Emotional Eaters (?): Exploring the relationship between socialized coping responses to discrimination and disordered eating for collegiate Black women.”

The theme of the conference was “Hindsight is 20/20: Using Reflection for Assessment, Program Excellence, and Student Success.”

Associate professor of psychology and coordinator of the African & African American Studies minor, Buffie Longmire-Avital and her collaborators receive grant to address the needs of Black women living with HIV in the South during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Overman's program, "Brain Basics and how the Pandemic has Influenced our Thinking," was presented Monday by Elon's Office of Leadership and Professional Development.

Assistant Professor Sabrina Thurman was featured in an episode on the podcast "Women in Academia," where she shared her personal story and tips on thriving in academic and everyday life.

This summer, a small army of faculty and staff prepared technology and tools that create opportunities for students to connect with material and each other.
