Psychology majors Sarah Borowski ‘11, Brittany Bowers ‘12, Elizabeth N. Palmer ‘11, and Traci Weisberg ‘11 presented their research at the 36th annual Carolinas Psychology Conference on April 9. The conference - one of the longest running undergraduate research conferences in the nation - took place in Raleigh and was hosted by Meredith College.

Maureen Vandermaas-Peeler and Larissa Ferretti (Class of 2009) presented research on children's early numeracy in two presentations at the Society for Research in Child Development in Montreal, Canada last week. One of the presentations was based on part of Larissa's honors thesis while she attended Elon. She is now a graduate student at Auburn University, pursuing a PhD in Human Development and Family Studies.

Meredith Allison, assistant professor of psychology, presented two posters at the fourth International Congress on Psychology and Law in Miami, Fla. Laura Sweeney '11 was a co-author on one poster that was based on her SURE project on criminal stereotypes.

As a student with more interests than she could count, Elon University senior Meredith Naughton found that simply having someone to consult about the future made her job hunt easier. She’s now headed to Hawaii to begin work with struggling teens – and she gives much of the credit to Career Services.

A report authored by associate professor of psychology Mathew Gendle, Kim Glazer ’08, Liz Olszewski ’09 and University Wellness coordinator Cindy Novak has been published in the spring 2011 issue of the Journal of the North Carolina Academy of Science.

Amy Overman, an assistant professor of psychology, was an invited speaker on Feb. 8 for the Women's Club at Twin Lakes Retirement Community.

Six psychology majors presented research this fall at the Sigma Xi International Research Conference, held in Raleigh, N.C.

Elon University professors, students and alumni made regional and national news in recent weeks through their research and activities, both on and off campus. Notable in November was coverage of the Elon University Poll, guest columns by university employees and mentions of faculty scholarship and student projects on blogs hosted by the New York Times and the Washington Post.

A paper co-authored by assistant professor Amy Overman and three Elon undergraduates, as well as Joseph D.W. Stephens at N.C. A&T State University, has been published in the American Journal of Undergraduate Research.
