Elon was one of nine higher education institutions in the state to receive a grant for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services in January.

Associate Professor of Chemistry Justin Clar will work with undergraduate researchers to assist the Consumer Product Safety Commission in standardizing methods used to characterize the release of nanoparticle-based coatings from various coated surfaces.

Among many duties of the position, Overman will oversee research, pursue external grants and assist with the implementation of the Boldly Elon strategic plan

The $377,800 grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute is designed to improve introductory science experiences for undergraduate students and increase retention of talented STEM students.  

They received a $15,600 sub-grant from the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) to develop the Science of Reading program in the Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education.

The $5,000 grant from the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) will fund the iBELONG Male Mentor Program, which will be housed in the Center for Access and Success. 

The $3,500 grant will support the Power and Place Collaborative that is a partnership between the university, Burlington's Mayco Bigelow Center, and the African American Cultural Arts and History Center.

The first 14 Elon Freedom Scholars completed a two-week summer residential program July 1 focused on the study of democracy, leadership and social action. They will continue working with Elon faculty and undergraduates and community leaders throughout their senior year of high school.

Local middle schoolers in the Elon Explorers summer bug camp shared their findings and experience during the week-long STEM enrichment program.

The three-year grant secured by Assistant Professor of Mathematics Hwayeon Ryu will support the development of a mathematical model that could guide the development of new treatment options for the SARS-CoV-2, commonly known as COVID-19, virus.
