In her new role, the longtime Elon faculty member says she hopes to support her colleagues as they make the department an exceptional place for learning and professional growth.

The journalism major traveled to Las Vegas with classmate Naomi Washington ’24 and Associate Professor Rich Landesberg to attend the popular conference for Black and Hispanic journalists and news industry professionals.

The 12-day, on-campus residential learning workshop, made possible through $300,000 in grant funding from the Scripps Howard Foundation, supported 18 high school rising seniors interested in pursuing careers in journalism and the media industry.

Elon alumni Scott McCrary ’00, Nicholas Kurtz ’14 and Emily Harrison '18 were among the other honorees recognized at the 64th National Capital Chesapeake Bay Emmy Awards ceremony held June 25.

The prolific Washington, D.C.-based photographer – and Durham native – will host his first public art installation, “The Last Dance,” on Saturday, May 28, at the Durham Athletic Park. The free event, which will be held on the field, runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The communication design and media analytics double major will intern with Bloomberg Law in Washington, D.C., this summer.

The Elon University graduate produced a deeply personal story titled “Unlocking My Past & Finding a Connection to Slavery,” which recently won the Gracie Awards’ Original Online Programming in News category.

A generous scholarship gift from alumna and Univision News Anchor Maity Interiano ’07 will assist students in Elon’s School of Communications. Her gift is part of the Elon LEADS Campaign.

Russell started at the show in 2016 as an intern and has recently been promoted to a producer.

As one of the lead designers on NBC’s on-air graphic design team, LaPlante created and updated graphics for Super Bowl LVI and its millions of viewers.
