Reform Judaism, the world's largest circulated Jewish Magazine, lists Elon among four colleges and universities that are providing strong support and programming for students of the Jewish faith.

University Chaplain Richard McBride coordinated a protest in front of an Alamance County Board of Commissioners meeting this month that was featured Aug. 26, 2008, on Morning Edition, an NPR program broadcast across the nation.

A new Elon University program took a half dozen incoming freshmen to Atlanta this summer as a cultural immersion into various world religions, including Buddhism, Judaism, Islam and Hinduism. Said one student of the experience: “Now I feel like I can help eliminate false conceptions and prejudices people have of religions.”

Biking an average of 80 miles a day for two full months, Elon University sophomore Dani Schenk will travel across the southern United States this summer to raise money for a national nonprofit agency that builds homes for low-income families.

Six students will travel to the remote highlands of central Morocco this month as part of a service trip to tutor children learning English and to observe firsthand how residents of the impoverished region are developing profitable cottage industries.

If you look back far enough – 130,000 years, to be exact – people today share a common ancestor. For the Right Rev. Michael B. Curry, who delivered the sermon May 23 at Baccalaureate, that bond requires Elon graduates to leave what he called this “sacred place” and to always treat others as family.
