Sophomore Experience Programming
Your second year of college is a time to dive a bit deeper into the areas that interest you, and further explore ways to become meaningfully engaged in the Elon community. It is a time to develop deeper peer connections, begin seeking out professional development opportunities, engage in social and academic enrichment programming, and forge connections with faculty and staff. Upcoming Events
Sophomore Welcome Back Celebration
On Monday, August 23, join your friends, me, and President Book, at the Sophomore Welcome Back Celebration in Rhodes Stadium. Doors open at 5:30pm, with a brief program at 6:00pm. Harvest Table will serve a special dinner from the concession stands, using a meal scan, followed by an evening of games and activities, music from a local DJ, and giveaways. We also have a special gift for sophomores in attendance. After that event, sophomores will have priority seating for the back-to-school hypnotist event, also in Rhodes Stadium, before the doors open to all other students at 8:00pm.
Well Connected Challenge
As you navigate your return to campus, be sure to engage in the Well Connected Challenge. On PhoenixCONNECT, you’ll find a number of events you can attend in order to complete the challenge. Participate in at least two events in each of the categories (Community, Late Night, and Wellness) to automatically be entered to win a number of prizes.

We will email you regularly at the beginning of the semester with information for sophomores, to help you get involved and connected this fall, these events include:
- Organization Fair (in-person), Thursday, August 26
- Sophomore Football Tailgate Zone, first football game, Saturday, September 4

Residential Living & Learning Experience
At Elon University, we offer all students a premier residential campus experience focused on living, learning, and personal development. All on-campus housing at Elon is located within a neighborhood that works to integrate the academic, social, and residential aspects of college life for students so that students’ experiences–from the classroom to the dining hall to the residential community–are seamless. Such intentional integration means that at Elon we take a holistic approach to education, recognizing that it is not enough to provide the means for academic success but we must also provide tools, knowledge, and resources to support students’ personal, professional, and social development.

Student Professional Development Center
The Elon Student Professional Development Center (SPDC) assists students in understanding their career-related interests, individual preferences, strengths, and values. They aid students in understanding how to conduct an effective internship, job, or graduate program search, for the ultimate purpose of pursuing meaningful careers over a lifetime.
Attending a workshop or scheduling a meeting with SPDC staff in the sophomore year will kick-start your professional development as you begin to consider internship and job prospects beyond graduation.
The SPDC can help students explore majors and careers, develop cover letters and resumes, prepare for interviews for internships and jobs, networking, and applying to graduate programs.
College²Career (C²C) Program
This Career Development Program sponsored by the SPDC is a rewards program to help students become more confident in their ability to prepare for and develop the skills to help them find opportunities that move them towards their professional goals!
This program is grouped into four different groups and after completing all four, students will earn a C²C Program Certificate of Completion and become eligible for an iPad or $100 Target gift card drawing.
SIDE Swipe Faculty & Staff
Getting to know faculty and staff is an integral component to the Elon experience. Through the SIDE Swipe program, students are able to invite a faculty or staff member to lunch without using their meal plan. Students can use the SIDE Swipes program up to two (2) times each fall and spring semester and once during each Winter Term.
PhoenixCONNECT
Getting connected outside the classroom enhances the educational experience at Elon. Students should connect to clubs and organizations through PhoenixCONNECT – get involved in current or new organizations and attend meetings, events, and programs throughout the academic year!
