Summer Race, Reflections and Discussion Series

Since the June 2015 fatal shootings of nine black people by a white man at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, SC, the CREDE staff has facilitated faculty and staff discussions on race and racism in our communities, called Summer Race, Reflection and Discussion Series.

The series is held during the summer months over an extended lunch and learn professional development opportunity where faculty and staff participants engage in discussions about race-related prompts that create a shared basis for exploring this socially constructed concept.

The Summer Race, Reflections and Discussion Series has expanded as a co-sponsorship by the Office of Inclusive Excellence Education & Development (OIEED), the Center for Race, Ethnicity, & Diversity Education (CREDE), and the Office of Leadership and Professional Development, .
