Lauren Dunne Astley Memorial Lectures (LDAML) are to promote healthy relationships in honor of Lauren Dunne Astley who was to have been a member of Elon’ Class of 2015. In the summer before she came to Elon, Lauren was murdered by her former boyfriend, who was sentenced to life in prison for his crime.  In the United States, 3-4 women are killed by their partners.

Elon has made a commitment through the Women’s, Gender, and Sexualities Studies program partnering with other offices and programs to host LDAML.  The lectures are a gift from the Lauren Dunne Astley Memorial Fund, started by Lauren’s parents, Malcom Astley and Mary Dunne.  Each year the LDAML are hosted by the WGSS program through speakers, workshops, or any educational program formats that speak and inform the Elon University Community about healthy relationships and specifically preventing boys’ and mens’ violence against girls and women and other boys and men.
