Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get to Elon?
Elon Admissions offers printer-friendly directions and a map for those visiting campus.
Take Interstate 85/40 to exit 140 University Drive/Elon. If you are driving from Durham and points east, take a right at the end of the ramp. If you are driving from Greensboro and points west, take a left at the end of the ramp and cross over the highway overpass.
Follow the signs for University Drive and continue for 2.5-3 miles. Continue on University Drive approximately one mile, proceeding through the stoplight at Williamson Avenue/N.C. 87. Turn right at the next stoplight for O’Kelly Avenue.
When should I arrive and depart for the weekend?
Registration and check-in will open mid-morning on Friday and events will begin around noon. In order to maximize your experience, we recommend arriving late Thursday or first thing Friday. Our signature programs will occur on Friday and Saturday. Most families choose to stay in the area until Sunday at around noon.
What hotel options are there in Elon and the surrounding area?
Please visit our accommodations page.
Where do I go to pick up my information?
Check-in and registration is located in McKinnon Hall in the Moseley Student Center. Open hours at Friday, Sept. 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 28 from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Will I be able to speak with my child's professor during the Meet and Greet time?
Most faculty will be available during the Meet and Greet. When you check-in, you will receive a list of your student’s faculty members and meeting locations.
Do I need to purchase tickets for my Elon student?
It depends on the event. Using their Phoenix Card, students can receive a complimentary ticket to Fall Convocation as well as the general admission areas of the football game. If you are sitting in Zones 1-4 at the football game and would like your student to sit with you, please purchase them a ticket.
What restaurant options are there on and off campus?
Please visit the Elon Dining Services website for information about on-campus dining options. The Alamance-Burlington Convention and Visitors Bureau offers a comprehensive list of Burlington-area dining options.
On Friday evening, there will be several local food trucks at the Phoenix Fourth Friday event in downtown Burlington.
Will wheelchairs be available for those that need one?
Unfortunately, we are not able to provide wheelchairs. You may, however, contact Clovers Medical Supply (336-222-8052). They will take your order and payment, then deliver the chair to the Moseley Center on campus for your convenience.
If I want to cancel my registration, can I get a refund?
Once you register, we start planning for you! As a result, we commit the funds to vendors and associated expenses. That means we are only able to offer refunds for the ticketed events until registration closes. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer a refund for the weekend fee. To request a refund, please email familyweekend@elon.edu.
What does the weekend fee cover?
The weekend fee is used to cover many administration costs associated with Family Weekend. Additionally, the weekend fee helps support all of the wonderful events that do not have an additional cost associated. For example, the continental breakfast, parent mini-classes, Late Night Elon events, and many more! You can see which events are included in the weekend fee by looking for the check mark icon on the schedule page.
The events I want to attend are not listed on the registration form. Do I still need to register?
As valued members of the Elon community, we want to know you will attend Family Weekend so we may plan accordingly to provide the best experience. If you do not wish to attend the events that require registration on the registration form, please be aware that we will not be able to provide your student schedule for the faculty meet and greet or information for the parent mini-classes offered on Saturday morning. The weekend fee is used to cover event costs associated with Family Weekend.
What should I do if I’ve already registered for Family Weekend and need to make an alteration?
Please call the Family Weekend staff at 336-278-5206 or use the chat feature on our website to make adjustments to your registration. Please do not attempt to make changes or re-register online, as this will incur additional weekend fee charges.
Is transportation provided on campus for those that need it?
Family Weekend staff will transport guests in need of walking assistance in golf carts on Friday and Saturday.
Where can I park?
On Friday, Family Weekend visitors are encouraged to park in the Innovation Quad lot located on East Haggard Avenue; the Colonnades Lot, which is accessed via Phoenix Drive; Hunt B lot behind Schar Center, or South Campus lots located off of East Trollinger Avenue & South O’Kelly Avenue.
For Saturday, visitors should park in the Hunt, McMichael East, Colonnades, and Innovation Quad lots due to the football game. When those are full, additional parking will be available in the Arts West Lot on the corner of Haggard and Manning Avenues, or in the parking lots on South Campus, and the Danieley Center.
Throughout the weekend, we ask that you do NOT park in the lot at the Inman Admissions Welcome Center, as those spots are reserved for prospective families that are visiting campus.
