Intended Audience: All new full-time faculty members; NOTE: Previous Elon part-time faculty who are now changing to full-time faculty status should also attend this session.
Representatives from the Office of Human Resources (HR) will host a New Hire Q&A for all new full-time faculty members. During this session, representatives will answer any questions that were not addressed in the online new hire orientation offered by HR.

This highly engaging session will explore forthcoming personal, professional, and departmental opportunities and strategies to actively contribute to an Inclusive Excellence work and learning culture. Learn more about a new suite of educational modules launching this fall to support faculty and staff development toward a greater sense of community and belonging for all members. Other highlights include Fall 2024 standard offerings and opportunities to deepen the conversation and commitment. Furthermore, this session will illustrate how to demonstrate your commitment to inclusion, equity, and diversity through continued development and informed action.

12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. - Center for Writing Excellence: Strategies for Designing AI-enhanced Writing Assignments
Location: Belk Pavilion 208
Intended Audience: Teaching faculty who would like time to work on, or get feedback on, their writing assignments and want to discuss how AI impacts their writing instruction.
We’ll start this session by sharing ways to integrate generative AI into different stages of the writing process (including invention, outlining, revision, peer response, proofreading, and assessment of writing) and discuss approaches to developing an Acceptable AI-Use Policy for writing assignments. We’ll also talk about how consultants in The Writing Center are prepared to work with students who are using AI writing tools. After this overview, faculty will have focused time to work on their course writing assignments and to get feedback on them from the Writing Across the University Director (Dr. Paula Rosinski) and Writing Center Director (Dr. Julia Bleakney). Intended Audience: This workshop is for all new and continuing department chairs, including associate chairs and individuals who will be serving as interim chairs during the 2024-25 academic year.
This workshop will be the first in a series of Department Chair development sessions for 2024-25. This session will include an introduction of a new Chair Development program new for 2024-25, as well as updates and training on PageUp, submitting/approving curriculum proposals in Watermark, the collective bargaining agreement (CBA), the new process for advisor assignments, and other points of discussion and opportunities for Chairs.

LLC Advisors will kick start the semester meeting with your LLC Resident Assistant and the Residence Life and Academic-Residential Partnership team. This meeting will discuss 2024 priorities and help you prepare for the first six weeks of the semester.

This session will explore the structure and content of the Faculty Handbook, highlighting key sections and policies that are relevant to your academic and professional journey. Attendees will receive tips on how to effectively navigate the Faculty Handbook, gain a deeper understanding of how it shapes shared governance and intersects with your overall engagement and experience at Elon.

Intended Audience: Residential neighborhood community directors and faculty directors, linked course faculty, living learning community (LLC) advisors, faculty affiliates, faculty-in-residence, and neighborhood association members.
Members of the university community working in support of living and learning at Elon – the Residential Campus Initiative – will meet to discuss strategic goals for the 2024-2025 academic year. Neighborhood associations will have breakout sessions during the meeting to review neighborhood plans, meet the faculty and residential staff working in the neighborhood, and to share the common calendar for the fall semester.

Elevate your teaching this fall with your army of technology! Teaching and Learning Technologies team will host drop-in sessions for instructors to explore Microsoft’s suite of tools, setup Moodle Gradebook and attendance for classes, and learn more about engaging with students using Poll Everywhere. Intended Audience: Open to faculty
ITDF is still pretty new on campus and this session will explain its mission to do research and publish findings that are meant to be distributed widely and have notable public impact. Lee hopes to work with faculty to create and publish research and have significant student involvement in the research process. He will use this session to solicit ideas about how the Center can integrate well into campus activities.

Intended Audience: Directed to any faculty advisors, but open to all members of Elon University
This meeting is for ANY student organization faculty advisor, new or returning. Discussion will center on updated Elon policies and procedures for student organizations and how you can help your leaders traverse the system. Additional information will be provided on how to be an effective advisor and student motivator, how to navigate PhoenixCONNECT, and on services available for your student organization. Join representatives from Student Involvement, the Moseley Center, and SGA for important updates.

The EcoVillage Living Learning Center is a new residential neighborhood that combines sustainable architecture with small house living. The first phase of this neighborhood consists of six houses that provide six unique sustainable design solutions for the twelve students that will be living in this neighborhood during the 2024-2025 academic year. Drop by to learn more about this interesting residential neighborhood. EcoVillage LLC is located at 2635 W Front Street Burlington, NC 27215.
Parking on site is limited so consider taking the short walk from main campus along the greenway path.
An Elon Express shuttle will make a continuous loop beginning at 3:45 p.m. and ending at 5:45 p.m.

4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m. - Loy Farm Open House - Community-wide event
Location: Loy Farm – 2635 W Front Street Burlington, NC 27215
Intended Audience: Faculty and staff interested in learning about what is happening at Loy Farm or scheduling a Loy Farm Tour for a class or student group.
The Loy Farm includes a solar farm and the Elon Environmental Center, which includes the responsible design studio, forest classroom and food and farming system operations. Stop by to learn about the sustainability initiatives taking place at Loy Farm.
