Grad Guard Renter’s Insurance
Elon University is a safe and caring environment, but, like your home, it still requires forethought about protecting personal belongings and personal liability. While Elon University cannot and does not cover students’ lost, stolen or damaged property; we certainly recognize your need for ensuring the safety of your property. As outlined in the Housing Agreement and Residential Policies, Elon University assumes no financial responsibility over the personal property of residents nor will the institution be financially responsible for large-scale, unintentional damage caused to university property by on-campus residents, such as a flood of fire.
GradGuard Renters Insurance is a smart investment for college students and their families. With the GradGuard Renter’s Insurance plan, personal items that are stolen or damaged by a covered cause of loss can be replaced, subject to a $100 deductible. GradGuard Renters Insurance also protects students financially from large scale, unintentional damage they may cause to their residence hall or bodily injury they may cause to others for which they are legally liable. The option to purchase GradGuard insurance is embedded in the Housing Application each year. Please contact GradGuard directly with any questions at their member services department: 866-985-7598
We strongly urge all families to consider GradGuard, contact their insurance agents, check their homeowner’s policies, and consider purchasing such renter’s insurance.
Signing up for GradGuard
In each housing application, after signing the Housing Agreement, students are prompted to consider GradGuard Insurance.
- If the student is completing the housing application more than 270 days before their requested insurance start date, then they’ll be prompted for some contact information and the student will be emailed closer to their move-in day with a reminder about optional renter’s insurance and how to sign up.
- If the student is completing the housing application less than 270 days before their requested insurance start date, they’ll be able to request coverage and pay for the insurance within the GradGuard system while completing the application.
- As a reminder, this insurance is completely optional and students can indicate they wish to DECLINE coverage and why.
