Residence Life Student Staff Hiring
Spring and Fall 2025
Each year we recruit for talented students who are passionate about building community and enhancing the residential experience for undergraduate students at Elon! Residence Life student staff members hold a premiere leadership role on campus and have the opportunity to impact peers where they live and learn! If you hold a passion for mentoring others, building community, and helping others identify why and how they can make a difference, then a position with Residence Life is right for you! Graduate students are welcome to apply though positions follow the undergraduate calendar and candidates must be able to meet calendar requirements.
The student staff positions hired in this fall recruitment process are Resident Assistants (RAs), Apartment Managers (AMs), and two House Manager (HM) positions for EcoVillage at Loy Farm and for Trollinger House respectively. RA positions are open to all current students while AM and HM positions are only open to rising juniors and seniors. HMs for Loy Center are open to rising sophomores and are hired in a separate recruitment process occurring in the Spring semester. Senior Resident Assistants (SRAs) and Senior House Managers (SHMs) for Loy Center are hired from current staff members with required experience in a Residence Life position. The application to apply for our fall recruitment positions opens on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 and submissions are due by 12pm noon on Friday, October 25, 2024 via the online application in PhoenixCONNECT. Please note a resume is required to apply.
Students interested in applying for a mid-year position beginning Spring 2025 may also apply beginning Wednesday, October 2, 2024 using the same application on PhoenixCONNECT. Important dates for applications and interviews can be found below. Students currently studying abroad may also apply and interview via Zoom. Get more information from our leadership team and current student staff who will be hosting information sessions on the dates and times listed below. Students applying for a position are required to attend one information session. Interested applicants can also visit the Residence Life staff who will be tabling at 9:40am at College Coffee on Tuesdays, October 1, October 8, October 15, & October 22 on Phi Beta Kappa Commons.

- If I miss the deadlines listed above how do I apply to be a part of the Res Life staff?
- While our process does have to adhere to guidelines we are always interested in building up our interest pool for potential student staff candidates. Feel free to email residencelife@elon.edu to find out if there is any supplemental or later process in which you can apply.
- What is the time commitment for being a Res Life student staff member?
- Time commitment can certainly vary based on your number of residents, the specific neighborhood you are in as well as time of the semester. Some times of the year are busier than others and some are very slow comparatively. Keeping this in mind we say it averages to about 15 hours a week; knowing that some weeks, like Health and Safety or closing weeks, may be closer to 20 hours while weeks leading up to fall and spring breaks tend to be quieter and closer to 10 hours or less.
- What is the training commitment for being a part of the Res Life student staff?
- All training dates are required for student staff to attend. Students who accept offered positions will be expected to attend all training components related to their positions including:
- Staff Onboarding for Fall 2024 hires: Wednesday, April 17, 2024 8:30-9:30pm, location TBD
- August 2024 Mandatory Staff Training: Monday, August 12th, 2024 for SRAs/SHMs; Tuesday, August 13th, 2024 for RA/HMs; (AM employment begins May 28, 2024)
- All-Staff meetings, one Wednesday per month 8pm.
- In addition, all staff hired to start in the Spring 2024 semester must attend mandatory staff training Wednesday, January 31, 2024 with anticipated move-in/relocation date of Tuesday, January 30, 2024.

- Our Residence Life Student Staff training provides a knowledge and skill base necessary to act in the successful capacity of a leader within your residential community and beyond at Elon University. Training topics include but are not limited to:
- Residential living and learning experience
- Diverse, inclusive & equitable community development
- Community building and programming
- Conflict de-escalation
- On-call crisis response and emergency management
- Mental health concerns and support
- Critical thinking/ethical decision-making
- Communication skills
- Campus security/responsible employee training

- Our Residence Life Student Staff training provides a knowledge and skill base necessary to act in the successful capacity of a leader within your residential community and beyond at Elon University. Training topics include but are not limited to:
- Do I have to have prior job experience to be a student staff member with Residence Life?
- While prior relatable work experience can be a beneficial knowledge base to bring as part of your resume and application it is not a requirement to be hired. We hire staff members with a diverse amount of work experience from none to some to plentiful. The SRA/SHM positions do require a prior experience in a Residence Life role, while we preference previous Residence Life experience for AM roles.
