First-Year Student Process
Welcome to Living and Learning at Elon!
Congratulations on your acceptance to Elon University and welcome to the Elon community! You are joining over 4100 other residential students in a premier learning environment. As the application process begins, this site is designed to provide you and your family information about living on campus. As you read through the materials carefully, please let us know if you have questions.
Application Details
- During the fall selection process, incoming students are asked to provide information about their lifestyle so we can match you with a roommate if you don’t already have one determined. This includes information about communication, study habits, bedtime, etc. (More information on Roommate Selections is below).
- Students will also provide preferences for gendered housing, single rooms, and any requests for accommodations.
- Students are NOT able to provide any neighborhood preferences on the application as neighborhoods are randomly assigned to incoming students.
- Students are also encouraged to apply to a Living Learning Community (LLC) during this time.
- Once assignments are emailed to all students, no room changes will be considered.
Roommate Selections
- About half of all incoming students choose their roommate in advance by “mutually matching” with them on their Self-Service after submitting their application. This may be someone you know from before Elon, a friend of a friend, someone you’ve met during admission events, or someone you’ve connected with through social media.
- And about half of incoming students do not have a roommate in mind coming into Elon. Residence Life will use your “roommate questionnaire” questions on your housing application to make a good roommate match and assign you together.
