Below is information regarding the openings and closings of the on campus residence halls and apartments for the start and end of all terms as well as information regarding housing during break periods. Returning Students

  • Apartment Residents:
    • As a reminder, apartment leases begin June 1, 8, or 15 or August 1 (for Crest residents).
    • On, or after, their assigned lease start date, students can all check in Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm at the respective Neighborhood Office.Oaks/Park Place – McCoy Commons 103

      Station – Love Commons 106
    • If any student needs to check in outside of standard business hours (Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm), call the Summer On Call phone (336-264-4276) until July 27, OR the respective apartment On Call phone starting July 28.
      • Call the On Call phone 15 minutes before you plan to arrive. A staff member will meet you at the respective office.
      • NOTE: If you are checking in after 11pm, please call Campus Safety for a one-time “lockout” to access your space and then check-in at the neighborhood office (weekdays) or on-call staff (weekends) the next morning.
  • Residence Hall Residents: Fall 2023
    • Please note that students will not be permitted to arrive earlier than the scheduled move in date for returning students. Please see the Early Arrival page for more information on the Early Arrival request process and guidelines.
    • Check-in will be in your neighborhood office between the hours of 8am and 5pm. See neighborhood office locations here.
    • Log into Self Service (www.elon.edu/myhousing) to double check your assignment and roommates/suitemates.
      • Please note all assignments are FINAL and no changes can be made until the room change period opens in September.
    • Move-In Day Tips:
      Neighborhood Office Hours – Neighborhood offices will be open from 8am-5pm on Aug. 20 and 21.
      Phoenix Card Services will be open on Sunday, Aug. 20, from 12pm to 3pm for those who may need a new card.
      Parking – Parking enforcement will begin for the 2023-2024 academic year on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 7am. To avoid being ticketed or towed, be sure your car is parked in the lot designated on your parking permit.
      Note for Loy Residents – The Inman Admissions Lot will be available on Sunday, Aug. 20, for move-in day temporary parking. Please remove your car by 8am on Monday.
      Facilities Issues? Please place a FixIt request and Facilities Management will respond on Monday, Aug. 21, as they are not open (except for emergencies) on Aug. 20.
      Bed lofting supplies can be found in common areas on the first floors of residence hall communities. If none are found, please place a FixIt request.To Do On Move-In Day:
      Check-in at the Neighborhood Office.
      Complete your online Room Condition Report on Self-Service when you arrive to your room.
      Complete your name on your door decoration.
      Be prepared to move your own items into your room. (Limited moving carts will be available in each neighborhood.)
      Attend your opening meeting with your residential student staff.Other Reminders:
      Making your room more like home – To learn about general amenities of your assignment, click here. To see the floor plan/layout of your assigned hall, click here. (Elon login credentials are required.)Please take a moment to review our policies, including the full Housing Agreement, so you become familiar with our expectations for living on-campus. For a list of items to bring to campus (or leave at home), click here.Students also have access to Roomie to see a 3D scan of their individual residential room. The link to this 3D scan can be found on Self-Service and is room specific. More information on Roomie can be found here.

      Streeme TV – With Streeme TV, Elon students living in on-campus residence halls have access to more than 60 channels of news, entertainment, and premium programming in residential common areas that have a TV. Streeme TV is accessible by launching the app on the Roku home screen.

      Bed Linens – All rooms in residence halls have extra-long twin beds, except single rooms in Global and Colonnades, which have full-sized beds. Please plan accordingly when buying your linens.

      MicroFridge – Through Elon University’s partnership with Standards For Living, Elon students may rent a microwave-refrigerator-freezer all-in-one combination appliance unit and have it waiting in your room before you move onto campus. These uniquely designed units are the only microwaves allowed in the residence halls (except in kitchenette spaces in the Danieley Center). Please be sure to check with your roommate to avoid double orders as only one unit is permitted per room. The order deadline to have in your room by move-in is August 12, 2023.

      Parking – If you are planning to bring a car to campus for Fall 2023, please read the following information carefully:
      To park on campus, students must register their motor vehicle with Campus Safety and Police and pay a designated parking permit fee. Details about designated parking areas, parking rules, and permits may be found on the Transportation & Parking website.
      Don’t delay! If you plan on bringing a vehicle to campus, register for a parking permit at elon.edu/parking. Sign in using your Elon username name and password. You will be asked to sign off that you viewed and read campus parking rules and information, provided at this link, before completing the parking permit registration process.
      On Friday, August 18, Saturday, August 19, and Monday, August 21, parking permits can be picked up in Oaks McCoy Commons room 106.
      After August 22 permits will be issued back at Campus Safety and Police, and anyone that has registered, but not picked up their permit by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7 will be delivered to the mail room on Friday, Sept. 8.
      You must register your vehicle and pay your parking permit fee online prior to arriving to pick up your parking permit.
      Please pick up your permit at the Campus Safety and Police Office located in Oaks Commons by Monday, August 21.
      Parking enforcement will begin for the 2023-2024 academic year on Tuesday, August 22, at 7am.

      Dining Services – Elon Dining’s team of food enthusiasts is excited to welcome our campus foodies home this August! During the first week of classes, Elon Dining will be tabling daily throughout campus to answer any questions you may have regarding Meal Plans, dining options, or allergen and dietary preferences. Be sure to follow us on social media before arriving on campus @ElonDining or visit our events page to see when dining events are happening on campus!

      Important Dates:

      Navigating Dining — Find resources that will take the guesswork out of dining at Elon University! Have questions before you arrive on campus? Contact Elon Dining!

      Mail Services – If you are sending packages and boxes for the opening of the semester, you can go to the Mail Services website for the proper addressing format and information about when you can begin shipping items.

      Storage Scholars – Students may also explore the “Ship to School” option available through Storage Scholars. Storage Scholars and their “Ship to School” program are the only vendor approved to deliver students’ belongings directly to their rooms ahead of arrival to campus.       Renter’s Insurance – While Elon University does not cover the cost of students’ lost, stolen, or damaged property, we recognize the need to protect your property. Elon University has invested in technology and enforces policies to protect the safety of your property, but, like your home, it still requires forethought about protecting personal belongings. We encourage you to talk to your insurance agent and consider renter’s insurance.

Thanksgiving Break Closing and Opening

University residence halls (not apartments) will close during the Thanksgiving break. Please see the university’s Important Dates page for more information regarding dates and times the residence halls will be closed and when they will reopen after the break. Residence Life staff will be entering all Residence Hall spaces during closing to perform routine occupancy checks to be sure students have departed for the break. Please be sure that your space is free of all residential policy violations and student code of conduct violations prior to your departure.

Staying During the Break

Students in residence halls who need to stay late or return early for any portion of the break must complete a request. The break housing applications can be found in Self Service under Applications and Forms and will be available there in the weeks leading up to the break. Please note that all requests may not be approved and students in university apartments do not need to complete this request for the Thanksgiving break. Once you submit your request, you will receive an answer within two business days to your Elon e-mail account.

If you are approved to stay on campus during the break, please note the following:

  • Most dining facilities will not be open during break periods. Please check the dining services website for hours of operation.
  • You may be in a building without other students, so be mindful of your surroundings and take steps to ensure your safety.
  • You are still bound to follow all university policies and any actions violation these policies will be reviewed by the student conduct office.
  • Guests (including other university students) are not permitted in the residence halls, under any circumstances, during break periods.
  • The university also reserves the right to assess charges and assess break fees against students who enter residential areas without permission during break periods.
  • Please be advised that break periods are the university’s time to do routine maintenance, therefore, Facilities Management staff  may be in and around the buildings while you are there.
  • Student staff and Residence Life professional staff will not be available during this time. If you need assistance, please call Campus Safety and Police at 336-278-5555 OR if it is an emergency, call 911 immediately for assistance.

Leaving for the Break

If you are not approved to stay on campus during break and are leaving your residence hall space, please be sure to do the following before leaving:

  • Be sure all windows are shut and locked
  • Take your key with you when you leave and be sure your door(s) are shut and locked behind you
  • Remove all trash and perishable items that may go bad during the break
  • Set your thermostat to the lowest setting
  • Take all valuable personal items home with you

Returning After the Break

If you are locked out when you return, please call your neighborhood’s on call phone number for assistance. Please be patient with your neighborhood staff as they may be busy with lockouts during this time.

If you return earlier than the day and time the residence halls reopen, you will not be admitted entrance into the hall and will need to seek out your own housing accommodations until the hall reopens for all students as stated in the university’s Important Dates.

Not Returning After Fall Term

If you are not returning to Elon after the Fall term, you must be completely moved out of your space by the stated date and time the residence halls close. If you live in an apartment and are relinquishing your lease at the end of the Fall term, not returning to Elon after the Fall term, or are moving to a different apartment after the Fall term your apartment move-out date will be earlier than the apartment lease end date to provide time for the space to be appropriately cleaned for move-in. Please keep an eye on your email for more information from Residence Life.

Staying During the Break

Students in residence halls who need to stay late or return early for any portion of the break must complete a request. Spring Term Closing

University residence halls (not apartments) will close during the Summer break after the Spring term has concluded. Please see the university’s Important Dates page for more information regarding dates and times the residence halls will close. University apartments will close at 10am on May 31st. Students should plan to vacate their space 24 hours after their last final and not anticipate being permitted to stay late. Requesting to Stay Late

Students who need to stay late after residence halls or apartments close must complete a request. This request application can be found in Self Service under Applications and Forms and will be available there in the weeks leading up to the end of the Spring term. Checking Out

If you are not approved to stay late at the end of the year, please be sure to do the following before leaving:

  • Be sure all windows are shut and locked
  • Lock your door(s) behind you when you leave
  • Return your key properly to your neighborhood office in an express check out envelope; failure to do so accordingly may result in charges to your student account
  • Remove all trash and items from your space; failure to do so may result in charges to your student account
  • Set your thermostat to the lowest setting
  • Clean your vacant space and leave it the condition in which you found it upon moving in

Summer Housing

If you are going to be taking classes during the summer and need on campus housing, you can request housing for Summer Session I and/or Summer Session II by completing the Summer Housing Application on Self Service under Applications and Forms.
