Editing an Existing Menu
To edit an existing menu:
- Hover over the Sidebars admin menu item to display the Sidebars sub-menu.
- Click on the Menus sub-menu item.
- If you only have one menu on your site or the menu you want to edit is already showing in the Select a menu to edit dropdown, go ahead and start modifying the menu as detailed below.
- If the menu you intend to edit is not showing in the Select a menu to edit dropdown, click the dropdown menu and select the desired menu.
- Click the gray Select button next to the dropdown.
- Now you can start modifying the menu as detailed below.
Managing Menu Items
The homepage menu item is added automatically, so do not create a new one. It will always be placed in the top position in the menu and cannot be moved.

Adding an Existing Page
Note: Only pages in your site will display in the Pages box. If you intend to link to an Elon page that lives outside your site, use the custom link method detailed below.
- If not already expanded, click on the Pages box title bar.
- Select either the Most Recent, View All or Search tab depending on how you want to locate your page.
- If using the Most Recent or View All tabs, locate the page you want to create a menu item for in the list and check the box(es) for the page(s) you want to add.
- Once you have selected all the pages you’d like to add, click the gray Add to Menu button below the list.
- The menu items will now appear at the bottom of the Menu Structure list.
- Once you’ve added your menu items, click the blue Save Menu button to save your changes.
Adding a Custom Link
- If not already expanded, click on the Custom Links box title bar.
- Enter the full URL, including http:// or https://, in the URL field.
- Enter the menu item label in the Link Text field.
- Click the gray Add to Menu button located below the Link Text field.
- The menu item will now appear at the bottom of the Menu Structure list.
- Once you’ve added your menu items, click the blue Save Menu button to save your changes.
Reorganizing Menu Items
Reorganizing menu items is as simple as dragging and dropping them in the desired position.
- Menu Item Order: Drag and drop the menu item vertically to place it in the desired order. As you move the menu item, you’ll notice the surrounding items move to make room for your menu item, and the gray dotted outline will snap into place in between them.
- Menu Item Hierarchy: Drag and drop the menu item horizontally below the desired parent menu item. You’ll notice the gray dotted outline snap to an indented position.
Editing a Menu Item
To edit an item, click the small gray arrow located at the far right of the menu item. Once clicked, you will see the available menu item options.
Editing Page Menu Items
- Navigation Label: If the page title is long and you’d prefer to shorten it, you can modify the label text by entering new text in the Navigation Label field.
- Open link in a new tab: If you’d prefer to open the link in a new window or tab, check the box for this option.
- If you do not see this option click Screen Options located at the top right of the admin page, then check the box for Link Target.
- When you’re done modifying your menu items, click the blue Save Menu button to save your changes.
Editing Custom Link Menu Items
- URL: If needed, change the URL for the page you’re linking to in the URL field.
- Navigation Label: Modify the label text as needed by entering new text in the Navigation Label field.
- Open link in a new tab: If you’d prefer to open the link in a new window or tab, check the box for this option.
- If you do not see this option click Screen Options located at the top right of the admin page, then check the box for Link Target.
- When you’re done modifying your menu items, click the blue Save Menu button to save your changes.
Removing a Menu Item
To remove an item, click the small gray arrow located at the far right of the menu item. Once clicked, you will see the available menu item options. Then click on the red Remove link.
Once you have removed the desired menu items, click the blue Save Menu button to save your changes.
